Stephanie Miller Moore on Behalf of Her Best Friend — Donations Closed!

$6,103 of $4,500 raised

Need:

$4,550 for 3 1/2 months of rent

Circumstances:

If you’ve been to the Wimberley Square over the last 15 years, you know Stephanie Miller Moore from working at Kamaway Market, Chulitas, and Gypsy Market. “I’ve been through this whole journey with my best friend, so I feel I’m the best person to tell her story and ask the community for help,” she told us.  Stephanie said her friend and her 15-year-old daughter are such kind and special people.  A year ago doctors found a mass and told her friend not to worry about it. She went back for another biopsy this year when it seemed worse.  Stephanie remembers the day her car wouldn’t start and asked her best friend for a ride to work and back. They stopped at H-E-B before going home. It was Friday at 5:15 PM when her friend took a call from a number she didn’t recognize and held it together through the check-out line until she got to her car and unloaded the groceries.

Being diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer cells couldn’t have come at a worse time.  Her friend told us, “I have a great job, a home in a neighborhood that is a loving community, and my daughter is finally settled in school.”  Her daughter has suffered from health issues and was at high risk during Covid, so homeschooled, making straight A’s all the way.  She didn’t return to school until a month ago.  Mom has had sole custody of her daughter since she was a baby and is worried about her daughter who was born with severe asthma and is a sensitive, gentle child.  Her daughter puts her mother’s concerns before her own, too.  Stephanie told us that at her own birthday dinner she anxiously looked over the prices, asking only for mashed potatoes.

Stephanie Moore’s best friend is self-employed and works for Ondrea Drew’s So Fresh Cleaning Services. Ondrea’s husband owns Wimberley Plumbing.  Ondrea said she went out on a limb when she hired her, but thinks it was the Holy Spirit leading her to do it since she’s just one of the best workers she’s ever had and so dependable.  She’ll have a hard time without her for 3 1/2 months but will do whatever she can to keep her since she’s such a good person and a workhorse.  Her landlord, too, told us how kind she and her daughter are: “I wish I could give them free rent for 3 months, but it’s my only source of income.”

Stephanies’s friend’s rent is $1300 per month.  When she found out she was going to be off work for 3 1/2 months, she took on extra hours and has been working nonstop.  She’s paid off all her debt but can’t cover rent for herself and her daughter.  Her 2014 Nissan Rogue stopped running several days ago, too, and she’s had to temporarily borrow a car for her daughter’s doctor appointments and to get to work.  Her sister set up a fundraiser for her earlier in the month that is closed.  The $1800 they raised from family will be used for bills and some of the car repairs that are estimated at $3000.  Wimberley Good Neighbor has shared other local Wimberley resources to help the family, including the local food bank, utility assistance resources, and the other nonprofits that can help with $200-$300 for household bills per quarter.

Donate:

Please help Stephanie’s friend with $4,550 to cover rent expenses for 3 1/2 months so that she and her daughter will be able to keep their home while she recuperates. With the two surgeries, doctors have given her a greater than 95% chance of never having breast cancer again.

Thank you:

This mom who never asks for help for herself was in tears after this support from her friends and family and people in the community. Abundant Grace Foundation lifted a heavy burden from her shoulders with their generous donation to help her with 2 1/2 months of rent and camp for her daughter.

In Stephanie Miller Moore's own words

The only reason my friend is accepting our help is for her daughter
