Adopt-A-Family

Thank you for helping your Wimberley neighbors! WGN elves are sorting through your gifts for each family. Volunteers will deliver gifts the week of December 12th. Gifts are delivered with gift wrap, tape and bows. To drop of personal gifts for families, drop off at Mail Stop, 13501 RR 12, Suite 103, Wimberley. For questions call, 512-648-4400

This year the cost of living has affected everyone, but is especially stressful for many families who are at the poverty line or barely above it.  The Adopt-A-Family program lets families be anonymous and create their own shopping list of the exact toys and necessities their children wish for.  We asked each family to create a list of 3 toys/entertainment and 3 needs per child, but they are grateful to have one gift for the holiday. Getting toys and clothing that are popular helps kids feel less like outsiders and that they fit in with their peers.

She says she struggles financially but is lucky in love with her amazing children. Her daughter, age 10, is going through a phase where she loves the color black. She carries a sketch pad with her everywhere and draws anime figures. She is also very passionate about music. Her daughter, age 6, plays Barbie, and paints and likes what her older sister likes! The girls wear out poor quality shoes very fast, and mom is hoping to be able to get a higher quality shoe that they normally couldn’t afford.

About this family:

It is very difficult for this single mother to ask for help. She is a teaching assistant and also does what she has to do for her children, cleaning on the weekends. Her children are used to hand me downs for everything, but they would really wish to have what their friends have. She would appreciate any help that would go towards what her children would love. She doesn’t allow video games, and her son wants to start working to help pay, but she told him he’s too young. He is 11-years-old and loves all sports, but mostly basketball and football and enjoys being outside with his friends, riding a bike. Her wish list includes gift cards to help her buy the $300 bike her son wants. Her girl, age 13, plays tennis with her mom and has a love for learning languages (4, so far).

Thank you for helping this family with holiday gifts! H-E-B donated gift cards for a Christmas meal!

About this family:

This family recently had to leave the place they lived and worked because their employer made changes to the property and didn’t give them notice. They are humiliated at their situation and where they’re temporarily living, while they get back on their feet. The father worked as part of a crew and was paid enough to live, but not to save, and now he’s scrambling, looking for work, while the mother takes care of their new baby girl that has hit the teething stage. Their son, age 4, was diagnosed with autism and is in the special autism class at school. This family grew up in Wimberley and are raising their family in the place they love.

Thank You:

To all the families that donated to me and my children this year. I would just like to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Y’all have made our Christmas this year and it is truly remarkable what you’ve done. Thank you again and merry Christmas to you and yours

Girl Age 12

About this family:

This single mother of a girl has deep roots in Wimberley, teaching at KAPS and now with WISD. This year has been life changing for them, going through some legal challenges with her ex-husband, and losing their home in a fire. They are hoping for some help for Christmas, while they get back on their feet. Her daughter, age 12, loves to sketch with colored pencils, and to read any book by Rick Riordan. Her dream is to open a bookstore that has cozy places for reading, when she grows up.

Thank you:

Thank you so very much for all that you guys have done for us!  My family feels so overwhelmed by the community’s participation in helping us get back on our feet.  We are already coming up with ways to collect and donate in the future so as to help the love keep passing along down the line.  Have a very blessed holiday, and again, thank you for giving us ours.

About this family:

This family lived and worked on a ranch for 20 years until it stopped operations permanently during the pandemic. Now they live in a trailer home, and the father helps people with yard work. The mother is home caring for their 2-year-old son, who was born with Down syndrome. Their 5-year-old son is very athletic, playing soccer and running. The oldest boy loves dinosaurs, and the colors blue and orange. They wish for an electric heater as a family gift because their trailer stays cold over the winter. She also needs a stroller for her youngest son, and he would be thrilled to be in a car stroller!

About this family:

Please help this family for Christmas. Their combined income has been cut in half, though they’re both still working the same number of hours and trying to figure out how to increase their income. It’s hard because the mom loves her job training kids. Their boy, age 10, plays football and the snare drum that was gifted to him by a friend. He sits in the stands and plays along with the band during games! Their oldest son, age 16, is already a talented photographer and was recently hired for a quinceañera. The camera equipment he uses now has all been picked up from thrift stores. To advance his skill (he recently had to turn down a job) he needs a gimbal, which is very expensive. If there is a photographer in the community who would like to donate a used gimbal, please let us know. He would like a bed frame because his mattress is on the floor since they can’t afford a bed. He also plans to take it to college.
